Summary

1) Overview: Tama City supports businesses contributing to local industry promotion and regional issue resolution through a crowdfunding-type hometown tax (furusato nozei) mechanism. The city receives donations on behalf of approved projects and disburses the collected amount (minus portal fees) as a subsidy. Unlike conventional subsidies, the awarded amount fluctuates based on donations gathered; applicants may need to top up with their own funds. 2) Eligible applicants: Individual proprietors with an address in Tama City or corporations with an office in Tama City at the start of donation solicitation. Applicants must have no municipal tax arrears, not be organized-crime affiliated, not be religious or political organizations, not engage in adult-entertainment business, and must not have received this subsidy in the same fiscal year. Voluntary associations may apply if they have bylaws and proper accounting. 3) Eligible expenses & content: Projects must serve Tama City's industrial promotion and regional issues. Eligible expenses are those paid between the grant decision date and March 31 of that fiscal year. Excluded: ordinary operating costs, food/drink, expenses without receipts, expenses already covered by other subsidies, and consumption tax / public dues. The donation target is capped at 2/3 of eligible project costs. 4) Rate, ceiling, schedule, key points: Subsidy equals donations collected minus portal fees. The city's initial budget is JPY 4.5 million. Designated business types (start-up, new-market entry, business pivot, industry pivot) without a fixed deadline qualify for the minimum-guarantee tier — if donations fall below 30% of the target, the city covers the shortfall. The project must finish by March 31 of the grant year. A pre-application interview with the Economic & Tourism Division is mandatory. Documents accepted in person, by mail, or by email (no seal required). Applications are reviewed in order of arrival and close upon budget exhaustion.
