(1) Overview: As part of Kobe City's initiative to promote sustainable forest-resource cycling, the city established the "KOBE WOOD Subsidy" on April 1, 2026 (Reiwa 8) to promote the use and adoption of Kobe-City-produced broadleaf timber (KOBE WOOD) harvested from forest management and urban-development activities (including street trees, garden trees, and obstruction trees). The subsidy has two types: Type 1 "Facility Wood-Use" for interior/exterior wood-treatment and wood-product introduction at private facilities, and Type 2 "Product Creation" for the development and manufacture of furniture, tableware, stationery, toys and similar products. (2) Eligible parties: Type 1 targets facility owners and similar; Type 2 targets woodworking businesses and similar. Both types exclude entities with unpaid municipal taxes, ties to organized crime, undisclosed representative/address, and others deemed unsuitable by the Kobe City Construction Bureau Director-General. Type 1 facilities must accommodate 1,000+ users annually, be open to the general public, expect 5+ years of continued use, and exclude government, religious, political, and adult-entertainment establishments. (3) Eligible expenses: Type 1 covers construction, purchase, installation and transport costs for wood-treatment work using KOBE WOOD. Type 2 covers raw materials, processing, and transport costs for developing/manufacturing KOBE WOOD products (consumption tax excluded). Both types require KOBE WOOD broadleaf species and at least 0.15 cubic meters of primary lumber. Type 1 additionally requires a visible wood-treatment area of at least 10 square meters and a KOBE WOOD origin certificate. (4) Rate, cap, schedule and key application points: Subsidy rate is up to 1/3 for Type 1 and up to 1/2 for Type 2. Maximum 2,000,000 yen and minimum 300,000 yen per project (rounded down to the nearest 1,000 yen). Applications accepted from April 1, 2026 (Wed) to September 30, 2026 (Wed) by 15:00 (closes earlier if budget exhausted).
