FY2026 Overseas Trademark Strategy Support Grant Program
Summary
This Tokyo metropolitan government subsidy supports small and medium-sized enterprises facing third-party trademark obstacles when expanding into overseas markets, by partially covering expenses for trademark cancellation and invalidation procedures, related attorney and patent attorney fees, and necessary investigative costs. The program aims to facilitate international business expansion using original brands and foster industry-leading companies in Tokyo. Eligible applicants include SMEs (corporations and sole proprietors), small business associations, and general incorporated associations/foundations registered in Tokyo, limited to one case per company per fiscal year. The subsidy period runs from April 1, 2026 to December 31, 2028 (approximately 2 years 9 months), with a subsidy rate of up to 1/2 and a maximum limit of 5 million yen. Eligible expenses include information gathering costs, opposition and invalidation trial-related fees, and administrative litigation expenses. Prior intellectual property consultation is mandatory before application, and both jGrants online application and document submission must be completed within the application period. Applications are accepted continuously with a final deadline of December 1, 2026 (Tuesday) at 5:00 PM, making early consultation with the Tokyo Metropolitan Intellectual Property Comprehensive Center critical.
