Summary

1. Program overview: The FY2026 Nagai City Startup and Entrepreneurship Support Subsidy helps individuals and corporate entities starting a new business in Nagai City by covering part of the costs needed for opening or promoting the business. The official page states that the program is intended to promote new startups in the city and support local industrial development. There are two eligible project types: use of vacant stores or similar properties to start a business, and advertising or promotional activities to publicize a newly started business and increase sales. Applicants must choose only one of these project categories. 2. Eligible applicants: Eligible applicants are persons or entities that will certainly start a business in Nagai City and are expected to continue the business for at least five years. Startup includes a person who has not been operating a business and files a new business opening notification as a sole proprietor, a person who establishes a new corporation, or a person or corporation that continues an existing business while starting a new business field. Applicants must not fall under excluded industries, must have their business plan reviewed by a Nagai Chamber of Commerce and Industry advisor before application, must have or be expected to obtain required permits, must have no municipal tax arrears, must not be related to organized crime groups, and must not receive overlapping Nagai City subsidies for the same project. For the vacant-store project, the business must use a store or office where independent operations can be conducted and must not be a franchise. 3. Eligible expenses and support details: For vacant-store use, eligible expenses include interior work, rent for stores or offices, advertising expenses, equipment, software purchases, and other costs deemed necessary by the mayor. The leaflet clarifies that water-supply work and toilet renovation are excluded from interior work, and that equipment and software must generally be under 100,000 yen including tax and must not be depreciable assets; software must be non-general-purpose. For the advertising project, eligible expenses include flyers, radio promotion, local magazine listings, website creation, and similar advertising costs. Eligible expenses exclude consumption tax and local consumption tax, and applicants are asked in principle to order eligible work from businesses within the city. 4. Subsidy rate, cap, schedule, and application points: The maximum displayable amount is 600,000 yen, available when a vacant-store project is implemented in the central urban area and the business falls under an additional-eligible industry, with a subsidy rate of up to two-thirds. Other caps are 300,000 yen in the central urban area without the additional industry category, 100,000 yen outside the central urban area, 250,000 yen outside the area with the additional category, and 100,000 yen for the advertising project at one-half of eligible costs. Applications are accepted from April 1, 2026 through the end of February 2027, on a first-come, budget-available basis. The application must be submitted within one year from the startup date, after consultation and confirmation by the Chamber of Commerce. Applicants considering use in the fiscal year are asked to consult the city by the end of June.
