[FY R8] INPIT Foreign Patent Application Subsidy (Intermediate Procedure Support)

①Overview: INPIT (the National Center for Industrial Property Information and Training) provides subsidies to SMEs, startups, and universities for partial coverage of expenses incurred in obtaining patents, utility models, designs, and trademarks abroad. This page covers the 'Intermediate Procedure Support' that subsidizes the cost of examination requests and intermediate responses after foreign patent applications. The subsidy targets recipients of INPIT's 'Application Procedure Support' to reduce the burden of post-application procedures. ②Eligible Applicants: Recipients of INPIT Foreign Application Subsidy's 'Application Procedure Support', including SMEs, startups, and universities/research institutions. Applications must be filed via the jGrants electronic system using a GビズID Prime account (issuance takes about 1 week; early registration recommended). ③Eligible Expenses & Content: Foreign patent-office examination request and intermediate response fees, agent fees, translation costs, etc. Only expenses incurred after the grant decision notice are eligible. Cap: ¥500,000 per procedure (per country). Rate: 1/2. The separate 'Application Procedure Support' track covers foreign patent office filing fees, agent fees, and translation costs at ¥1,500,000 per patent application, ¥600,000 per utility model/design/trademark application, and ¥300,000 per trademark anti-squatting filing, with a cap of ¥3,000,000 per SME applicant and no cap for universities, at a rate of 1/2. ④Subsidy Rate, Cap, Schedule, and Application Tips: 1/2 of eligible expenses; ¥500,000 cap per procedure per country. Application acceptance period (planned): 1 April 2026 10:00 – 14 December 2026 17:00. Schedule may change depending on the FY R8 government budget. After application, the INPIT secretariat verifies submitted documents and may request corrections or additional submissions. Apply with sufficient lead time to avoid the system congestion that often appears in the final days before the deadline.
